Getting a HP ScanJet 3c Scanner to Work in Fedora Core 3

Create or edit a file /etc/udev/rules.d/10-custom.rules containing the following line:

BUS="scsi", SYSFS{vendor}="HP*", SYSFS{model}="C2520A*", SYMLINK="scanner%n"

This will cause an appropriate symlink /dev/scanner* to be created when the sg kernel module is loaded, and the appropriate permissions to be set on the device to which the symlink points.

Be sure to have the latest updates for the udev and initscripts packages installed.

The definitive guide to writing udev rules can be found at:

MS Windows & the ScanJet 3c

If you're looking for Windows drivers for the ScanJet 3c, try installing DeskScan 2.9 from the HP website.
